Formally the Parents and Citizens Association (P&C) is constituted under The Education Act, 1990. The P&C enables parents and citizens to meet together to determine the needs and aspirations of the school community.
The P&C successfully supports and enriches the quality education of our students through:
- Promoting the interests of the school by bringing, citizens, pupils and teaching staff into close co-operation.
- Assisting in provision of equipment required by the school.
What we do
The P&C meetings provide a forum where parents can develop their partnership with the school and articulate their aspirations for their children's education.
We meet Wednesday of week 3 and week 8 of each term, starting at 7pm with the intention of finishing by 9pm. The exact time and date is published in the school newsletter as well as a request for agenda items. All agenda items must be to the secretary no later than the Friday before the meeting date.
Each meeting will include the principal's report as well as reports from sub committees. From time to time there may be guest speakers invited to speak on topics of interest.
The P&C also promotes fundraising activities to assist the school in providing specialist educational programs and equipment for teachers and students. Funds raised by these activities are then donated to the school on a yearly basis at the discretion of the P&C association. The treasurer's report is also provided at each meeting and the final profit and loss statement for each year is tabled at the annual general meeting (AGM). Formal elections for positions on the P&C also take place at the AGM.
How you can join us
Come along to any meeting during the year. All meetings are open to all parents. The dates will be published in the school newsletter and new faces are always welcome. For parents who are unable to attend, there is a P&C ‘pigeon hole' in the school office where you can contact the secretary or president. Minutes of each meeting are emailed to class representatives to forward onto parents using class information lists and to P&C members who have submitted their email address. A copy is also available in the school office.

Sub committees
Sub committees report to and are governed by the P&C association, however they co ordinate their own activities on a daily basis.
Sub committees at Balgowlah North Public School (BNPS) include:
Band
Work closely with the ‘band contact teacher' to set and collect band fees and to assist the band leader in the supervision and organization of band performances and band camp.
Canteen
Manage the running of the school canteen, promote healthy food and coordinate the volunteer roster. The committee is also responsible for ‘employing' a manager. Profits raised from this committee are donated to the P&C association.
